Field Hockey
Virginia Beach, Va.
How did you get into field hockey?I started playing when I was eight years old. I think my parents wanted to get me involved in every sport, so I did the typical soccer, volleyball and field hockey. My mom played volleyball so it was really between field hockey and volleyball, but I'm not sure why I choose field hockey over volleyball. I've been playing field hockey for over 13 years now.
What sport would you be playing right now if not for field hockey?I'd want to play volleyball if I didn't have field hockey. But if I could play football, I would want to play that, because I just love the sport. It's just such an intense sport and takes so much athleticism. I did play powder puff in high school.
What is your favorite spot on campus?I would say besides the solitary rooms in the library – because I need complete silence to be able to function – I would say Ruffner Fountain. The students just sit and hang out, so there's always a bunch of people you can talk to.
What's the most interesting class you've taken at Longwood?I would say exercise physiology with Dr. Cathy Roy, because she was hands down the best educator I have ever had. She just taught the material so well, and since it was a core class for my major in kinesiology/exercise science, I learned a lot of important information going into my internship.
If you won the lottery what would you purchase first? This is cliché, but I would first pay off all my parent's bills.
What's your favorite movie?I hate scary movies. So I would say my favorite movie is a toss-up between the Hunger Games and Despicable Me.
What's your favorite book?I never really read a lot of books for fun, but my dad always read "Go, Dog, Go" to my brother every night before bed. Then he read it to me as a child, and even now, my brother reads it to my nephew. I have that book memorized by now.
What's your favorite place to eat in Farmville? The Fishin' Pig. I always get the chicken tacos with sweet potato fries. Any of the tacos are amazing.
Who's your favorite professor at Longwood?Dr. Jo Morrison is my favorite professor, because she is a professor who cares about her students learning the material. She doesn't teach just to teach. She goes above and beyond with her office hours and availability.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?I think it would be the ability to eat whatever I want and never gain weight, because I love food so much. I would eat half a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream and just not care, because I wouldn't gain any weight.
What are your plans for after graduation?I will be going to grad school in Florida and hopefully getting involved with human performance and athletic performance. My ultimate dream is to own a sports performance facility.
