FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University field hockey head coach Iain Byers has announced his 2010 schedule, featuring eight home matches at the Athletics Complex in Farmville, including a home date against defending NCAA champion North Carolina. Longwood finished 2009 with a 10-11 record, including 4-2 in Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) competition and a fourth-place finish in the NorPac Tournament. The Lancers went 5-3 in home contests last season, including a perfect 3-0 in NorPac matches. Longwood opens its season at home on Friday, August 27, when it hosts Ball State at the Athletics Complex in Farmville at 3 p.m..

Joining the Lancers are freshmen Stacey deGrandhomme/Cape Town, South Africa (Table View HS), Morgan McCaw/Suffolk (Lakeland), Anne Pishko/Norfolk (Maury), Caitlin Smith/Hampton (Kecoughton) and Allison Solan/Emmaus, Pa. (Emmaus).

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University field hockey team is set to host the third-annual Longwood field hockey alumni game on Saturday, April 17, at 5 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. The game will feature the current field hockey team against former players. Following the game, there will be a gathering and the graduating seniors will be recognized. Admission to the event is free and all former players are welcome to attend.

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University field hockey team placed four student-athletes on the 2009 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. Junior Andrea Bastiaanse/Granby, Conn. (Granby Memorial), sophomores Olga Knop/Berlin, Germany (Werner-von-Siemens Gymnasium) and Bailey Rampey/Fredericksburg (Courtland) and freshman Taylor Bender/Harrisburg, Pa. (Central Dauphin) were recognized for having a 3.30 GPA through the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University senior Kelsey Turner/Virginia Beach (Tallwood) has been named to the Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) All-Tournament team. The senior defender had two assists and two defensive saves in the tournament. She had one assist in the Lancers’ 3-1 win over Pacific and another in Longwood’s 3-2 loss to Radford in the consolation match.
