FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University seventh-year men’s and women’s tennis head coach Pat Breen has announced the hiring of Jakob Gustafsson as the programs new assistant coach. Gustafsson comes to Longwood after serving as the assistant coach for both men’s and women’s tennis at Morehead State University for the past two seasons.

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University second-year women’s basketball head coach Kristin Caruso has announced the hiring of Jenna Gambino as the program’s new assistant coach. Gambino comes to Longwood after serving as the assistant coach at Columbia University during the 2007-08 season.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University rising senior Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) has been named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for NCAA Division I by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).  Buhrman is one of 96 collegiate golfers to achieve this prestigious academic honor in Division I for 2007-08.  To be eligible, golfers must be at least a junior or senior and compete at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in at least 70% of the team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (GPA).

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Longwood University rising sophomore Kameron Carter/Bassett (Bassett) advanced to the Championship Flight Semifinals before elimination Thursday during match-play competition at the 83rd Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Women’s Amateur Championship played this week in Virginia Beach at the Bayville Golf Club (5,766 yards, par 36-36—72).  Rising junior Kelly McAnally/Virginia Beach (Landstown) won the Second Flight Final on Friday, while rising senior Kara Spence/Hampton (Phoebus) was eliminated in the championship flight's second round on Wednesday.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University 15th-year women’s soccer head coach Todd Dyer ‘93 has announced his upcoming 2008 Schedule, featuring eight home matches at the Athletics Complex in Farmville in addition to hosting this year’s United Soccer Conference (USC) Tournament November 1-3.  The Lancers finished 10-9-1 overall during 2007, including 5-0-0 in the USC, the program’s first year of NCAA?Division I competition with full certification and eligibility.  Longwood will open 2008 at home on Friday night, August 22, at 7 p.m. while welcoming nearby rival Liberty University.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University placed four women’s golf student-athletes on the 2007-08 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division I All-American Scholar Team.  The Lancers to achieve this prestigious academic honor include rising seniors Mary Carmody/Cortland, N.Y. (Cortland) and Kara Spence/Hampton (Phoebus) along with rising sophomores Kameron Carter/Bassett (Bassett) and Brooke Mallory/Brockville, Ontario (St. Mary Catholic).  The four standouts each attained at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) while competing in at least 50% of the team’s competitive rounds during the past year.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University 30th-year baseball head coach Charles ‘Buddy’ Bolding has announced his recruiting class for 2008-09.  Joining the Lancers for the upcoming year will be true freshmen Matt Gwaltney/Chesterfield (Matoaca), Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton), Robby Newman/Virginia Beach (Salem), D.J. Pomposini/Danville (GW-Danville), Dustin Sollars/Midlothian (Cosby), Mike Stancik/Ashburn (Stone Bridge), and Matt Yuhas/Freehold, N.J. (Freehold Boro).  The group of seven recently signed national letters of intent to attend Longwood.
