2010 Men's Soccer Schedule (PDF)
FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University sixth-year men's soccer head coach
Jon Atkinson has released the 2010 schedule, featuring 10 home matches at the Athletics Complex in Farmville, including a home date against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe Virginia Tech. Longwood finished 2009 with a 6-12-2 record, including 5-2 at the Athletics Complex. The Lancers open the 2010 campaign on the road against the University of Richmond in Richmond on Wednesday, September 1, at 6 p.m..
“I don't see an easy game on the schedule,” said Atkinson. “The only way we are going to improve and prepare for conference championships and ultimately NCAA playoffs is to play stiff competition. The biggest difference is the amount of home games (10 this year as opposed to seven in 2009), which is a huge plus.”
The Lancers host 10 home matches, highlighted by Virginia Tech (October 5, 7 p.m.). Longwood hosts a pair of Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) matches against Adelphi (Oct. 15, 7 p.m.) and NJIT (Oct. 23, 2 p.m.). Other home matches include Liberty (Sept. 4, 7 p.m.), George Washington (Sept. 8, 7 p.m.), VCU (Sept. 22, 7 p.m.), UNC Asheville (Oct. 2, 5 p.m.), Navy (Oct. 19, 7 p.m.), UNC Greensboro (November 2, 7 p.m.) and High Point (Nov. 6, 6 p.m.).
Longwood also faces four in-state opponents on the road, including Richmond (Sept. 1, 6 p.m.), James Madison (Sept. 12, 2:30 p.m.), Radford (Sept. 25, 6 p.m.) and Virginia (Sept. 28, 7 p.m.). The Lancers also play a pair of ASC matches on the road, traveling to Howard (Oct. 9, 7 p.m.) and Houston Baptist (Oct. 29, 1 p.m.). Trips to Towson (Sept. 15, 4 p.m.) and North Florida (Sept. 18, 7 p.m.) round out the regular season.
The Lancers will end the season at the ASC Tournament on Nov. 11-13 in Garden City, New York.
