FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men's soccer alum and native of Honduras David Granada '98 recently attended several 2010 FIFA World Cup™ matches in South Africa along with his wife Emma and daughter Emma Andrea. The Granada family watched all three Group H matches involving Honduras versus Chile, Spain, and Switzerland, along with the United States' Group C match against Slovenia and a Group A match between host South Africa and France. Granada said the experience was "a dream come true ..."

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University men’s soccer head coach Jon Atkinson has announced that Patrick Bain/New Market (Stonewall Jackson), Matthew Carey/Manassas (Osbourn Park), Michael da Fonte/Ossining, N.Y. (Ossining), Nicholas Surkamp/Manassas (Osbourn Park) and Nick Wright/Richmond (James River) are set to join the Lancers during the 2010 season.

KEYSVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men’s soccer, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Jon Atkinson recently conducted a soccer clinic for Charlotte County Youth Soccer at the Eureka Elementary School in Keysville. Coach Atkinson started with approximately 40 adults as he taught various ways to lead a practice, drills to perform, and how to build upon those drills. The Lancers demonstrated the drills as he explained them. Coach Atkinson emphasized that the most important part of coaching was making sure the kids “had a smile on their face.” A question and answer session followed afterwards as well.

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men’s soccer team is set for an exhibition match against the Richmond Kickers of the United Soccer League (USL-2) on Saturday, March 27, at 3 p.m. at Bunny’s Field in South Hill. The Kickers won the 2009 USL-2 championship. Tickets are $10 in advance at the South Hill Chamber and Montague Brothers Hardware or $15 at the gate.

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University men’s soccer senior defender Martin Vickerton/Derbyshire, England (Kirk Hallam CTC) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Atlantic Third Team. This is the second time that Vickerton has earned Third-Team All-Region honors as the senior garnered the same recognition following the 2006 season.
