FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University women's basketball head coach
Kristin Caruso has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2010-11 season. Joining the Lancers are
Emilee Dunton/Forest (Brookville),
Mina Jovanovic/Smederevska Palanka, Serbia (Salt Lake Community College) and
Bria White/Bethesda, Md. (Bethesda Chevy Chase High School).
“I am very excited about the addition of Bria, Emilee and Mina,” said Caruso. “These three young ladies will add great depth at our guard spots and are also tremendous student-athletes. I fully expect these young ladies to continue building our program both on and off the court.
Dunton, a 5-8 guard, earned First-Team All-Region III and All-Seminole District honors as well as First-Team All-Area distinction from the Lynchburg News & Advance. She helped Brookville to a 95-14 record over her four-year career and dished out 526 assists, third-best in Virginia High School League history. Dunton was a member of Team Virginia AAU Club that won the National Fila Championship and Junior Nationals in 2009.
“Emilee comes from a solid basketball background, has played with outstanding players, and won championships,” said Caruso. “Her knowledge of the game, leadership and toughness are things we are excited to be adding to our program.”
Jovanovic, a 5-9 guard, averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 55% from the floor for Salt Lake Community College. She was part of the Serbian European Championship gold medal squad in 2007 and placed second in the Balkan Championships as part of the Serbian national team. Jovanovic also finished first in the Serbia U18 Championship with the Kovin club team.
“Mina is a junior college transfer from one of the top-five basketball programs in the country. The experience she has gained the last two years in college as well as her amateur international experience will help our program immediately.”
White, a 5-11 guard, was a member of the All-Sentinel team as well as a nominee for McDonalds All-America while leading Bethesda Chevy Chase in scoring and rebounding. She also set the school record for three-pointers made. As a junior, White was First-Team All-League and Second-Team All-Gazette while averaging a county-best 19 points per game. She is a member of the DC?Heat AAU team.
“Bria brings us athleticism and size at the two-guard spot. Her strong passion for the game and scoring mentality will help us immediately on the perimeter.”
