FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University 13th-year men's golf head coach
Kevin Fillman has announced that Texan Kyle Bodin/Austin, Texas (McNeil) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lancers for 2010-11. Kyle is the son of Bill and Amy Bodin of Austin, Texas, and is a two-time All-District first-team selection and a four-time academic All-District honoree as well as the winner of the 2009 Texas Junior Golf Tour Region 2 Shootout (69-69).
“Kyle has proven to be successful at a high junior level over the past two years,” said Fillman. “He's played well in difficult conditions on very difficult golf courses, which should make for a smooth transition to playing on the intercollegiate level. Kyle's a great person and a good student. I?expect him to fit in well with our returning team members and to be a contributor from the time he gets to campus in the fall.”
Bodin played the number one position at McNeil High School in Austin, Texas for four years, and in addition to his two first-team All-District accolades, was an All-District second-team choice as a freshman and sophomore. He also won the 2008 Starburst Junior Classic (71-74-76), tied for third at the 2008 Trans-American Junior (75-72), and tied for fifth at the 2009 U.S. Junior Qualifier (74-70). Bodin tied for sixth at the 2009 Starburst Junior Classic (73-76-75), tied for 16th at the 2009 AJGA-Bob Estes Abilene Junior (75-71-76), and tied for 25th at the 2009 AJGA-Elbit Systems Junior (74-74-75).
Bodin joins Dylan Jensen/Martinsville (Carlisle School), who signed during the fall period, in this year's recruiting class. Longwood will complete its 2009-10 season this weekend, May 1-2, at the Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia at the Birdwood Golf Course near Charlottesville.
