DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Longwood University field hockey team defeated UC Davis 6-2 on Thursday afternoon in Davidson, North Carolina, to advance to the Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) semifinals. The Lancers (7-12) were led by junior
Olga Knop | Berlin, Germany (Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium) with two goals against the Aggies (6-10). Longwood jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 15 minutes and led 5-0 at halftime while it extended its winning streak to a season-high four matches. The Lancers return to action on Friday, November 5, in the NorPac semifinals when they face West #1 seed Stanford at 1:30 p.m. in Davidson, N.C..
“We executed well in the first 15 minutes,” said third-year head coach
Iain Byers. “We had planned to go out hard in the first 15 or 20 minutes, and that went well. We got everyone in and they all got some good tournament experience. We're looking forward to playing either Stanford or Appalachian State tomorrow.”

Kimberly Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) and scored on a shot at the left post. Knop added her second goal of the match in the 11th minute on another direct corner play from van de Kamp to Bastiaanse. van de Kamp finished off the opening flurry with a goal of her own in the 15th minute when she collected a rebound and scored, putting the Lancers ahead 4-0. Anne Pishko | Norfolk (Maury) and sent a shot between the goalkeeper's legs to make the score 5-0 in the 32nd minute.
UC Davis cut the lead to 5-1 in the 59th minute, but
Kimberly Sullivan scored on a breakaway to push the advantage to 6-1. The Aggies added another goal in the 62nd minute to make the final score 6-2.
Longwood outshot UC Davis 15-11 and had a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore
Kaye Goulding | Tickhill, England (Wakefield Girls) started in goal for the Lancers and made six saves, one of them on a penalty stroke attempt, while playing 52 scoreless minutes. Sophomore
Amy Lewis | Lewisville, N.C. (Forsyth Country Day) played the rest of the match and allowed two goals with one save. Knop led Longwood with two goals, while van de Kamp added one goal and two assists.
Kimberly Sullivan scored one goal with one assist and Bastiaanse had a pair of assists. de Grandhomme led the Lancers with seven shots, including three shots on goal.
The Aggies were led by Emily Mecke with one goal and one assist while Cloey LemMon added one goal. Lauren Sawvelle started in goal for UC Davis and allowed five goals with three saves in the first half. Conley Craven played in goal in the second half and allowed one goal with one save.
