FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women’s lacrosse team is holding the inaugural Turkey Trample on Monday, November 16, on Brock Commons on Longwood’s campus in Farmville. The team’s goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of gently used shoes to donate to the overall goal of Juma’s Shoes. Juma’s Shoes is one man’s desire to collect 30,000 pairs of shoes to send to Uganda.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University women’s lacrosse head coach Missy Ackerman has announced the recent appointment of Wendy Stone as assistant coach. Stone comes to Longwood from the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts, where she served as the varsity lacrosse and field hockey coach. She is currently the team manager for the United States Women’s World Cup lacrosse team. Stone will focus on coaching defense while being involved with all facets of the women’s lacrosse program at Longwood.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University junior Carlie Nethken/Hanover, Md. (Long Reach) has been named to the 2009 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Women’s Lacrosse Second Team. University of Virginia senior Blair Weymouth (51g, 18a, 69p) was named the VaSID Player of the Year, Old Dominion University freshman Sarah Geary (10.06 GAA, .502 SvPct) was picked VaSID Rookie of the Year and ODU head coach Sue Stahl (11-5) was named VaSID Coach of the Year.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Director of Athletics Troy Austin has announced the recent appointment of Missy Ackerman as the school’s new Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach. She previously was an assistant coach with the Lancers since 2007. Ackerman had previously been a head coach at her alma mater, Sweet Briar (2002-06), as well as at Randolph-Macon (1996-2002) and Earlham (Ind.) (1991-96). She has served as owner and president of Merestead Sports Camps (field hockey, lacrosse) in Richmond since 2004 as well. Ackerman replaces Janet Grubbs who retired last month after 15 years (1995-2009) with the program.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Director of Athletics Troy Austin has announced the retirement of veteran women’s lacrosse head coach Janet Grubbs, effective June 11. Grubbs compiled an overall record of 137-88-1 through 15 years (1995-2009) with the program, including a record of 11-6 this spring while winning the inaugural National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) Tournament Championship and being named the NLC Coach of the Year. Longwood will conduct a national search for a new head coach, according to Austin.
