FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University senior baseball standout Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) has been named to the 2nd-Team of the All-Valley League for 2010. Playing third base for the Haymarket Senators, he is hitting .355 with the five home runs, two triples, seven doubles, 38 RBI, and 29 runs scored while posting a .539 slugging percentage and a .410 on-base percentage. Jones has started 33 of 34 games for Haymarket (33-15), currently playing in the semifinals of the prestigious wooden bat league against Front Royal.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Former Longwood University baseball standout Phil Cerreto|Midlothian has been named the Appalachian League's Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending July 25. He hit safely in all seven games while batting .481 (13-27) with two home runs, four doubles, 10 RBI, and five runs scored for Johnson City (Tenn.) as the Cardinals won four of seven. Additionally, Longwood senior baseball standout Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) has been named the Valley Baseball League's Player of the Week for week seven (July 19-25). He hit .467 (14-30) with four home runs, one triple, one double, and 12 RBI for Haymarket as the Senators won five of six games.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University junior Mark Montgomery|Williamsburg (Bruton) has been selected to play in the 2010 Coastal Plain League (CPL) All-Star Game July 20 at McNair Field in Forest City, North Carolina. The right-handed pitcher has enjoyed great success as a closer this summer for the Edenton (N.C.) Steamers in the wooden bat league. Montgomery, who will play for the National CPL team against the American side, was 1-1 with a 1.61 ERA and 12 saves through July 13 while helping Edenton to a record of 27-12. He has made 20 appearances while pitching 22.1 innings with 41 strikeouts (16.52), limiting opponents to a .082 batting average. Montgomery ranks second in CPL saves, and is tied for second in appearances, games in relief (20), and games finished (17). Mark is the son of Ron and Glenna Montgomery of Williamsburg.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Former Longwood University baseball standout Phil Cerreto/Midlothian was named to the 2010 VaSID University Division All-State Second-Team as chosen by the Virginia College Sports Information Directors (VaSID). A third baseman, he hit a team-best .414 with 10 home runs, a school-record 24 doubles, and 60 RBI as a senior with the Lancers during 2010. Cerreto started all 48 games for Longwood this year with a .715 slugging percentage and a .477 on-base percentage, adding 42 runs, one triple, 27 walks (eight intentional), seven sacrifice flies, one sacrifice hit, and six of seven stolen bases. He led the Lancers with 23 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games, as well as in batting average, home runs, doubles, RBI, total bases (133), slugging percentage, on-base percentage, sacrifice flies, games, starts, and his total plate appearances (223). Phil was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 40th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft June 9.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Former Longwood University baseball standout Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. was recently named to the 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region Second-Team. A right-handed pitcher, he finished his senior season with a perfect 10-0 record on the mound while compiling a 3.11 earned run average through 81.0 innings with 59 strikeouts and 23 walks. Harting made 22 appearances, including eight starts, with five complete games and one shutout while limiting opponents to a .243 average. He led the Lancers’ pitching staff in wins, winning percentage (1.000), ERA, appearances, innings, and strikeouts as well as fewest hits, walks, runs, and earned runs allowed. Harting was also perfect in the field with no errors in 41 chances from the mound with 12 putouts and 29 assists along with one pickoff. His unbeaten pitching record was only the second in the program’s history while the 10 wins rank fourth-best all-time. Lance is the son of Jack and Gail Harting of Ballston Spa, New York.
