FARMVILLE, Va. --
Longwood University will begin its 2011-12 home athletics campaign with The GAME 2.0 (Greatest Athletics March Ever), a special community event to take place on Sunday, August 21, involving the first women’s soccer home match against Howard University at the Athletics Complex. The festivities will get under way with tailgating in the Longwood Dining Hall beginning at 4 p.m., followed by a spirit carnival in the Grand Dining Room at 4:30 p.m., a pep rally in Willett Hall at 6 p.m., and a 6:15 p.m. march from campus up Fourth Street and Longwood Avenue to the soccer facility on Johnston Drive for the opening kickoff at 7 p.m. A limited number of commemorative Longwood Lancers' scarves will be distributed at the pep rally. The GAME 2.0 is a collective effort among the Athletics Department, the Office of First Year Experience, and the Town of Farmville.  Additional details are listed below.

Sunday, August 21, 2011 (all times are tentative)
4:00 PM -- Tailgating in the Dining Hall, special menu to include all tailgating types of food, provided courtesy of Longwood Dining Services
4:30 PM -- Spirit Carnival in the Grand Dining Room, activities include face painting, music, pre-rally activities, spirit posters, and more!
5:30 PM -- Doors Open for the Rally at Willett Hall
6:00 PM -- Rally begins at Willett Hall
6:15 PM -- March to Athletics Complex | Longwood Compliance/Safety Officer Pinkey Baldwin will serve as Grand Marshall
7:00 PM -- Longwood vs. Howard
9:00 PM -- Post-Game contest

There will be extended concessions available on-site at the Athletics Complex. Lancer Productions, Lancer Lunatics, and the Bookstore will be on-site as well. There will be a special halftime show that will include a special recognition of the Longwood men's rugby club team that won the College Division III of USA Rugby championship last spring, and a post-game contest. Lots of free Lancer gear and prizes available. Shuttle service available to the Athletics Complex for those choosing not to participate in the march. The return shuttle service will begin at 8:15 PM.

The 2010 GAME Enjoys Great Success!
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University opened its 2010-11 intercollegiate athletics campaign August 22 with The GAME (Greatest Athletics March Ever).  The Lancers played the University of Richmond from the Atlantic 10 Conference in women's soccer at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.  The highly anticipated contest was played before a raucous and record-crowd of over 1,300 in a match that the Spiders won 1-0.  A picnic, pep rally, and a march from campus to the soccer facility on Johnston Drive took place prior to the opening kick.
