FARMVILLE, Va. – Senior second baseman
Carly Adams of the Longwood softball team has been named Big South Player of the week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
The honor for Adams is the first in her career, as she becomes the third different Lancer honored this season, joining pitchers
Elizabeth McCarthy and
Sydney Gay.
Adams enjoyed a terrific weekend for the Lancers and helped her squad go 3-0 against third-place Radford. The Colonial Heights, Va., product batted .636 (7-for-11) with a pair of doubles, five RBI and five runs scored. In addition, she enjoyed a slugging percentage of .818 and had an on-base percentage of .636. With her two three-hit games, Adams now has a team-leading seven three-hit games this season.
Playing in her senior weekend, Adams was a combined 7-for-8 in the first two games of the series, leading the Lancers offensive onslaught that saw the team post a combined 29 hits in the first two games. The senior had a hit in her first seven at-bats of the weekend until lining to short in her final at-bat of the second game.
Longwood returns to action for its final series of the regular season at Coastal Carolina May 7-8. The Lancers need one win to clinch their second straight regular season championship.
