FARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood women's tennis head coach
Bruce Myers announced the signing of Jamie Breunig of Toms River, N.J., to a National Letter of Intent earlier this week.
Breunig is a 5-4 right-handed senior at Toms River East High School and also plays competitively at High Performance Tennis Academy in Skillman, N.J. A three-time MVP of her high school squad, Breunig has also earned All-Shore honors in every season as a member of the Toms River East squad.
"As soon as Jamie visited campus for an unofficial visit, I knew immediately that she was exactly what I have been looking for as we continue to improve our women's tennis program," said Myers, who is heading into second season as the head coach of the women's tennis program here at Longwood.
This past September, Breunig became the first player in Ocean County history to earn a four-peat of the Ocean County Singles Championship, winning consecutive titles from 2012-2015. Along with that record-setting stretch, she also continued her dominance of the Toms River Country Club Open by completing her three-peat in the singles event.
"I am usually not a big fan of signing players during the early signing period, but with Jamie, there was no reason to wait until April," Myers said. "I did not want to do anything to jeopardize her being a Lancer in 2016."
The New Jersey native is currently ranked 374th nationally with an IMG Tennis RPI of 263.
"Jamie should step right into our lineup and develop into a top-of-the-lineup player before her Lancer career is over."
