WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Longwood University women's tennis competed at the Georgetown Classic hosted by BIG EAST Conference member Georgetown University on September 21-22 in Washington, D.C. The Lancers were led by junior
Nicole Parker|Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) (3-1), senior
Marta Pinyol|Barcelona, Spain (IESM Ferran Tallada) (2-1), and sophomore
Malin Allgurin|Värnamo, Sweden (Finnvedens Gymnasium) (3-2) in singles competition. Longwood will compete again this weekend, Sept. 29-30, hosting the Longwood Fall Invitational at the new tennis courts located adjacent to Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium at the corner of Race Street and Wynne Drive on campus in Farmville.
“I thought it was a pretty successful weekend,” said second-year assistant coach Tobias Fanselow. “We had three advance to the quarterfinals and two made it to the semifinals. Nicole played a great tournament and I am glad to see that her hard work in practice paid off. Malin and Marta both played a solid tournament, eventually losing to the winner of the tournament from George Washington. Sarah and Bethany fought hard and deserved a victory, but I am looking forward to next week's tournament where they get to see some new opponents. I am satisfied with the performance, but I saw some things with each one I want to try to correct before we go into next week's tournament here at home.”
