FARMVILLE, Va. – Thirty-three Longwood University student-athletes have been selected to participate in the 2011-12 Lancer Leadership Program. This is the third year of the program that selects student-athletes on the basis of academic and athletic successes, leadership skills and potential, and the personal recommendations of their respective head coaches and academic advisors.
“This year, the Lancer Leadership program has been completely revamped,” said Academic Services Advisor
Maya Ozery. “We want to make sure that the program is beneficial to the student-athletes, and we are looking forward to seeing our students benefit from a comprehensive leadership program.”
As well as facilitating leadership development, the program will also serve as a resource for the student-athletes to access leadership materials, hear from prominent leaders around the community, and network with other leaders around campus. One of the goals of the program is to help the student-athletes understand citizen leadership, embody it, and go out and make a visible impact on their respective teams and around campus.
“I am truly excited about the program and the group of student-athletes we have this year,” said lead facilitator Brynton Lett, a graduate student assistant in academic services at Longwood. “I believe that the students will benefit from the program, and they will be able to apply the skills they learn both on and off the field”
