FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University seniors Kameron Carter|Bassett (Bassett) and Brooke Mallory|Brockville, Ontario (St. Mary Catholic) have been named to the 2009-10 All-American Scholar Team by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The pair are among 321 Division I student-athletes nationwide to achieve this prestigious academic honor for the past year. To be eligible, golfers must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 and must compete in at least 50% of the team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds.

“I am proud of Kameron and Brooke for achieving academically while traveling to every tournament on our schedule,” said sixth-year head coach Ali Wright. “I witnessed countless hours put into academics throughout this past year. It is truly an honor for our program and our players to receive the NGCA All-American Scholar Team awards. Longwood has a rich history of All-American Scholar team members and it is fantastic to be able to continue this tradition.”

Carter, a chemistry major, has attained a 3.677 GPA and played in 20 rounds this past year while leading the Lancers with her 74.4 scoring average. She posted a career-low score for 18 holes (69), along with season-low scores for 36 (73-69--142) and 54 holes (72-76-76--224 | 76-76-72--224) with one win among six top 10 individual finishes in eight events. Carter is a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma chemistry fraternity and a three-time NGCA All-American Scholar Team honoree. Kameron is the daughter of Terry and Helen Carter of Bassett.

Mallory, a kinesiology major, has attained a 3.714 GPA and played in all 21 rounds this past year with a scoring average of 78.8. She posted career-low scores for 18 (72), 36 (77-72--149), and 54 holes (77-72-75--224) with one top 10 among four top 20 individual finishes in eight events. Mallory is also a three-time NGCA All-American Scholar Team honoree, and Brooke is the daughter of David and Arlene Mallory of Brockville, Ontario.

Longwood established a new school-record scoring average of 308.3 during 2009-10 while winning one tournament to go along with three runner-up efforts. Overall, the Lancers enjoyed seven top 10 efforts among their eight tournament dates with 19 top 20 individual finishes. Longwood returns five letterwinners and have added one newcomer for the upcoming 2010-11 campaign which begins September 11-12 at the Wolverine Invitational, a 54-hole tournament hosted by the University of Michigan at the UM Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
