FARMVILLE, Va. – Five members of the Longwood University softball team earned postseason honors, led by freshman
Brooke Short/Altavista (Altavista) who earned a spot on the NFCA Southeast Region Second-Team and was also named the NCAA Division I Independent Co-Freshman of the Year. Short led the Lancers with a .436 batting average, 13 home runs, six triples and an .808 slugging percentage. Junior
Briana Wells/Romoland, Calif. (Paloma Valley) was named the Independent Pitcher of the Year after she set several Longwood single-season records including 31 wins, 247 2/3 innings pitched, 41 starts and 47 appearances. Other Longwood players on the All-Independent team include senior outfielder
Camille Ketsdever/Irvine, Calif. (Irvine), sophomore shortstop
Ashley Kramer/Ashburn (Broad Run) and junior second baseman
Maggie Margadonna/Sea Girt, N.J. (Wall Township).
Short started all 52 games and led team in batting average (.436), home runs (13), triples (6), slugging percentage (.808), walks (25), intentional walks (8), on-base percentage (.532) and tied for the team lead with 42 RBI. She set Longwood single-season record for runs scored and home runs and tied the record for walks in a season. Short had a 12-game hitting streak to start season (.465, 20-43) and added 19 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games.
Wells made 47 appearances with 41 starts and posted a 31-10 record with a 2.69 ERA. She set the Longwood single-season record for wins (31), innings pitched (247.2), starts (41) and appearances (47). Wells recorded 154 strikeouts with 105 walks and pitched eight shutouts and one no-hitter. She held opponents to .234 batting average. Wells threw a five-inning no-hitter against Siena and pitched 13 scoreless innings in two shutout wins over Elon.
Ketsdever started 49 games and hit .366 with 11 home runs, 33 RBI and 35 runs scored. She had a .672 slugging percentage and .449 on-base percentage with 16 walks. Ketsdever had nine multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI games.
Kramer appeared in 51 games with 50 starts and hit .318 with 33 runs scored and 34 RBI. She added five home runs, two triples and 11 doubles. Kramer went 5-for-6 on stolen base attempts. She had a .517 slugging percentage and .368 on-base percentage. Kramer had 13 multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI games.
Margadonna started all 52 games and hit .355 with 27 RBI and 39 runs scored. She led the team and set a new single-season school record with 17 doubles. She hit two sac flies and had a team-high nine sacrifice bunts. Margadonna had a 13-game hitting streak and added 14 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games.
