Billy Daniels is in his first season as a new assistant coach at Longwood University during 2007-08. He previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at VCU during the fall of 2006 and throughout the 2007 campaign with the Rams. Daniels is a 2006 graduate of Liberty University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in sport management and was a pitcher for the Flames.
At VCU, Daniels assisted in all aspects of the game, including assistance with the pitching staff and coaching first base. He also aided with team travel and organization of the program’s camps. VCU finished 37-23 last spring while advancing to the NCAA Regionals. This past summer, Daniels served as pitching coach for the Fauquier Gators of the Valley League. He has also assisted with camps run by the Front Royal Cardinals (2004), Petersburg Generals (2002-03), and the American Legion Post 284 (1999-2002). Additionally, he completed an internship with the Lynchburg Hillcats as an administrative assistant and in Gameday Operations (2006).
Daniels was a starting pitcher at Liberty as a freshman while posting six mound wins, including his first collegiate win over #14 Wake Forest. Unfortunately, arm troubles and illness limited his participation (redshirt during 2002) with the Flames, but he was healthy and pitched well as a senior with 15 appearances out of the bullpen for a 1-0 record and one save, including a 3.86 ERA through 25.2 innings with 18 strikeouts. Daniels has pitched for Petersburg in the Coastal Plain League (2002-03), Front Royal in the Valley League (2004), and for the Fairfax Nationals in the Clark Griffifth League (2005).
Daniels is a 2001 graduate of Colonial Heights High School and is married to the former Kristin Matthews.
