
Gayle Coats is in her first year as a new assistant coach for women's basketball at Longwood University during 2007-08. A Richmond native, Coats comes to the program after being a part of the WNBA’s New York Liberty organization from April 2007-August 2007 where she interned as the assistant manager of video and scouting operations.
While with the Liberty, Coats helped with film editing, videotaping practice, organizing scouting report information, calculating player and team efficiency, daily administrative duties and film exchange. A 2007 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson, Coats was a four-year letterwinner and was named co-captain her senior year while earning the team’s Knight Award for Leadership that same season. Coats also excelled in the classroom holding a 3.5 GPA to earn a spot on the All-NEC Academic Squad for three years and graduated with magna cum laude honors.
Coats also worked with various AAU teams in New Jersey and Virginia as both a head coach and assistant coach. While in New Jersey, Coats served as a head coach of the New Jersey Cardinals U-13 AAU Cardinals in 2006 and was both an assistant and head coach of the New Jersey Mavericks from 2004-05. In her hometown of Richmond, Coats was a member of the U-turn Sport Performance Academy where she served as a basketball and strength and conditioning coach. While at U-turn Sport Performance Academy Coats, worked on individual skill development and team strategies and conducted weight lifting, agility and conditioning workouts.
