ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Longwood University senior
Marta Pinyol/Barcelona, Spain has been named to the 2013 Big South Conference Women's Tennis All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday night at the annual banquet conducted at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Gardner-Webb University senior Erica White was voted the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Year by the league's head coaches. Cid Carvalho of tournament host Winthrop was voted Coach of the Year for the 10th time since 1993, and the Eagles' Giovanna Portioli was selected as Scholar-Athlete of the Year by Big South sports information directors. Coastal Carolina University's Libby Scott garnered Freshman of the Year honors.
Pinyol finished this season with a singles record of 12-15, playing at the No. 1 position, and was 15-19 in doubles, also playing at the No. 1 spot. She posted career records of 38-48 in singles and 26-50 in doubles. Pinyol majors in communication studies and psychology, and has attained a cumulative grade point average of 3.98. She is a three-time Longwood Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, and was named to the President's List five times and the Dean's List once. Pinyol also received the Academic Excellence in Communication Studies Scholarship at Longwood.
