Looking At Longwood | Season Statistics
Longwood is 9-18 overall, including 6-5 at home where the program is 38-14 (.731) during the past three-plus years, 2-11 on the road, and 1-2 in neutral-site games.  Antwan Carter (19.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 27-straight double-figure scoring games), along with Tristan Carey (13.1 points, 49 3FGs), continue to lead the Lancers this season.  They have been joined in the lineup by Martiz Washington (11.1 points, 73 3FGs) and Jan van der Kooij (6.8 points, 6.0 rebounds), and now Anthony Taylor (2.7 points).  LU averages 74.3 points while shooting 44% from the field, including 35% on three-point field goals (8.6), and 68% at the free throw line.

Are You Serious?
Longwood began this 2011-12 campaign with 12 healthy student-athletes on its active roster.  That number went to 11 on December 2 when Durann Neil chose to leave the program.  It became 10 the next day (12.3) when Jeylani Dublin injured his wrist.  The number dropped to nine on January 1 when Mark Parker injured his ankle.  It became eight a few weeks later (1.23) when Jeff Havenstein injured his foot.  The number dropped to seven on February 3 when Jeremiah Bowman received an indefinite suspension from the program.  It moved back to eight shortly thereafter as Havenstein, though not 100%, returned to action vs. Seattle (2.11).  Unfortunately, the number is back down to seven as David Robinson injured his ankle late in the game vs. Seattle (2.11).

Quoting Head Coach Mike Gillian
“We're into the final four games of the season over the course of the next week.  The final home game of the year is always emotional, and Wednesday night's game will be no different.  There are three seniors on this team who have put a whole lot into this program over the last four years and to be able to recognize them on the night of their last home game will be special. Antwan, Martiz, and Jan have worked through a lot of adversity and managed to stay attentive to the task at hand and keep this group moving forward.  I know that long after their college careers are over, they will look back and realize they gained an awful lot of valuable life experience in being a major part of the Longwood Basketball Program.

“After Wednesday, it's back on the road for the final three games of the season – each presenting it's own challenges.  NJIT is always tough at home, Gonzaga is a perennial top-20 program and NCAA Tournament team, and we had an incredible game here with Seattle a week or so ago.  These three games will draw to a close the 2011-12 season and also the end of an era for Longwood, playing as a Division I Independent.”
