FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University field hockey carried a 6-2 decision past visiting Siena College on Tuesday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Senior Lauren van de Kamp | Midlothian (Trinity Episcopal) scored a pair of goals, including one on a penalty stroke, to lead the Lancers. Longwood returns to action on Saturday, September 4, when it hosts 10th-ranked Duke University of the Atlantic Coast Conference at 1 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Admission is free.

“We executed much better in front of the goal this afternoon,” said third-year head coach Iain Byers. “Our ball movement was good. We're happy with the result, but we know there is always room for improvement. We are also all happy for Allie (Solan) who scored a goal in her first start with us.”

Longwood struck in the sixth minute when van de Kamp took a pass from junior Olga Knop | Berlin, Germany (Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium) on the left side of the cage and directed it into the net. The Lancers added to their lead in the 23rd minute when senior Kimberly Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) collected a rebound in front of the cage and scored to give Longwood the 2-0 lead. Siena trimmed the advantage to one when Lindsay Mayo redirected a loose ball in front of the net in the 27th minute. The Lancers responded when freshman Allison Solan | Allentown, Pa. (Emmaus) scored her first career goal in her first start to put Longwood ahead 3-1 in the 29th minute.

van de Kamp started the Longwood scoring in the second half when she scored on a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute. Senior Andrea Bastiaanse | Granby, Conn. (Granby Memorial) pushed the lead to 5-1 in the 47th minute. Brittanny Moran scored for the Saints to cut the lead to 5-2 but junior Amanda Babineau | Stafford (Mountain View) took a pass from junior Alison Akers | Virginia Beach (First Colonial) and scored from right in front of the net to make the final score 6-2.

van de Kamp led Longwood with a pair of goals while Kimberly Sullivan attempted a game-high seven shots. Sophomore Amy Lewis | Lewisville, N.C. (Forsyth Country Day) allowed two goal and made one save in 70:00 in goal for Longwood. Siena's Alison Baillargeon made five saves and allowed six goals in the contest.

Longwood outshot Siena 19-6 while the Saints had a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.
