FARMVILLE, Va. -- Former Longwood University baseball standout
Phil Cerreto|Midlothian has been named the Appalachian League's Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending July 25. He hit safely in all seven games while batting .481 (13-27) with two home runs, four doubles, 10 RBI, and five runs scored for
Johnson City (Tenn.) as the Cardinals won four of seven. For the season, Cerreto is hitting .356 with the five home runs, one triple, nine doubles, 24 RBI, and 18 runs scored while posting a .644 slugging percentage and a .392 on-base percentage. He has started 22 games for Johnson City (22-12) as the Cardinals are currently in first place in the rookie league's West Division.
Longwood University senior baseball standout
Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) has been named the Valley Baseball League's Player of the Week for week seven (July 19-25). He hit .467 (14-30) with four home runs, one triple, one double, and 12 RBI for Haymarket as the Senators won five of six games. For the season, Jones is batting .357 with the four home runs, two triples, four doubles, 26 RBI, and 22 runs scored while posting a .561 slugging percentage and a .422 on-base percentage. He has started 23 of 24 games for Haymarket (26-12), currently in first place in the prestigious wooden bat league. Jones did miss 14 games earlier this season after breaking his nose when hit in the face by a pitch.
