FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men’s golf was well represented at the 2010 SunTrust State Open of Virginia that concluded this past Sunday at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. Five current and former Lancers competed in the annual 72-hole tournament, a stroke play event limited to 168 golfers (80 eligible Virginia PGA members and apprentices, 80 eligible amateurs, the defending champion, and seven Open qualifiers). Leading the Longwood contingent was recent graduate Adam Webb ‘10 who finished in a tie for 12th with his eight-under par 70-69-69-72—280 at the 7,029-yard, par 72 layout. Webb was followed by fellow alum Tim White ‘82 (71-73-73-72) and junior Austin Gray|Midlothian (Monacan) (67-74-72-76) who each tied for 40th with their respective one-over par totals of 289. Also competing were junior Ross Sumner|Callao (Northumberland) (77-82) and alum Jason Copeland ‘00 (77-WD), though each missed the cut which was at four-over par 148. All except White (PGA member) played as amateurs in the Commonwealth’s premier tournament that was won by 19-year-old amateur Evan Beck of Virginia Beach (65-67-70-66--268).

Longwood will open its 2010-11 campaign September 13-14 at home, hosting the 54-hole Manor Intercollegiate at The Manor Resort Golf Club.
