WALLACE, N.C. – Longwood University posted a 54-hole score of 294-299-300--893 in men's golf to finish 11th among 13 teams Saturday at the River Landing Intercollegiate co-hosted by East Carolina University and UNC Wilmington at the River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, North Carolina. UNCW won the tournament with its 283-282-282--847 at the 6,942-yard, par 72 layout, while ECU's David Watkins took individual medalist honors with his 71-69-67--207. Longwood will be idle until playing again at the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State University April 24-25 in State College, Pennsylvania.
Longwood was led by senior
Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) with his 73-73-75--221 that tied for 34th in the field of 79 golfers. Webb was followed by sophomores
Austin Gray/Midlothian (Monacan) (75-74-75--224, t-46th) and
Bobby Fox/South Riding (Xavier, Conn) (72-76-76--224, t-46th), junior
Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Trafalgar) (76-76-74--226, t-52nd), along with sophomore
Kenny Leech/Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep) (74-79-76--229, t-63rd). Gray finished the two-day, three-round event tied for second in par 5 scoring (4.50, -6).
UNC Wilmington was followed in the team standings by North Carolina (849), ECU (859), Wofford (861), along with Maryland (866) and VCU (866) rounding out the top five (six) teams.
