FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women’s basketball program is set to take on the University of Virginia of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday, February 16, at 7 p.m. at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville at 7 p.m.. Longwood (7-17) is coached by third-year head coach Kristin Caruso and is led by sophomore Brittanni Billups/Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) who is averaging 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Virginia (18-6) is set to take on the University of North Carolina on Monday night before welcoming the Lancers on Tuesday. The Cavaliers are coached by longtime head coach Debbie Ryan in her 33rd season and are led by Monica Wright who is averaging 22.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Scouting Virginia
Virginia is 18-6 on the season before their game with North Carolina on Monday night. The Cavaliers have won three games in a row, including a 69-63 overtime victory at Miami last Thursday. Virginia has defeated USC Upstate (110-63), Virginia Tech (70-56) and Liberty (W, 63-54) with losses to James Madison (73-75) and Maryland (60-61). The Cavaliers are led by Monica Wright (22.7p) who has earned ACC Player of the Week honors seven times this season, including this past week. Virginia is averaging 70.5 points while allowing 62.8 points.

Scouting Longwood
Longwood is 7-17 and riding a two-game winning streak. The Lancers defeated Savannah State (79-48) their last time out and topped Troy (76-70) last Wednesday. Longwood is 6-4 at home this season and 1-11 on the road, with the lone road victory coming over Big South Conference member High Point (76-68). The Lancers are paced by Billups (11.3p, 5.6r) and freshman Chelsea Coward/Mechanicsville (Hanover) (10.9p) while averaging 61.5 points and allowing 69.8 points. Freshman Crystal Smith/Richmond (Meadowbrook) is averaging 8.1 points and junior Krystal Garrison/Fredericksburg (Courtland) is contributing 8.0 points.

Series History
Longwood and Virginia have met 12 times in women’s basketball with the Lancers trailing the series 5-7. Longwood dropped the last meeting 88-50 last season when the Cavaliers were ranked 18th in the nation. Senior Becky Fernandes/Fort Belvoir (Bishop Ireton) paced Longwood with 14 points while Garrison scored nine and Billups added eight. Four players scored in double-figures for Virginia, led by Lyndra Littles with 18.
