Carlie Nethken/Hanover, Md. (Long Reach) has been named to the 2009 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Women’s Lacrosse Second Team. University of Virginia senior Blair Weymouth (51g, 18a, 69p) was named the VaSID Player of the Year, Old Dominion University freshman Sarah Geary (10.06 GAA, .502 SvPct) was picked VaSID Rookie of the Year and ODU head coach Sue Stahl (11-5) was named VaSID Coach of the Year.
Nethken scored 14 goals and added seven assists for 21 points from her defensive position. She led the team with 47 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers and was second on the team with 36 draw controls. Nethken posted a .519 shooting percentage and a .815 shots on goal percentage and had five multiple-goal matches.
Nethken is the first Longwood women’s lacrosse player to earn VaSID All-State honors since 2005.
