FARMVILLE, Va. -- The Longwood University women's soccer team has been named as a recipient of the 2008-09 NSCAA Team Academic Award. The Lancers attained this prestigious team academic honor with their overall team GPA of 3.09 during the 2008-09 academic year, as recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The
NSCAA recently honored 335 intercollegiate women's programs from all Divisions who posted team grade point averages of 3.0 or higher for 2008-09.
“As a team, these young ladies put in a lot of hard work to make sure their academic performance matched or exceeded what they were doing on the soccer field,” said 16th-year head coach
Todd Dyer '93. “We take a lot of pride in what we're doing in the classroom and that, along with academic support from our faculty and administration, takes us a long way in representing Longwood University in a very positive light.”
Longwood finished 9-8-1 this recent 2009 season for the program's fourth consecutive winning campaign, and the 13th overall winning season in the 16-year history of the program. Coach Dyer is the only coach the sport has ever had as he sports an overall coaching record of 175-104-16 (.620). He has been assisted over the past six years by associate head coach
Steve Brdarski. The Lancers could return as many as 22 letterwinners for the 2010 schedule of matches.
