FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Athletics has reached an agreement with WVHL Radio, 92.9 FM Kickin’ Country to broadcast all 31 men’s basketball games locally in Farmville during 2009-10. This is the fifth-straight year for a broadcast partnership with Kickin’ Country as the flagship station, insuring that all games are available worldwide via the Internet and TEAMLINE as well at www.longwoodlancers.com.

“I am excited for the start of the 2009-10 College Basketball season and to once-again work with WVHL Radio,” said Director of Athletics Troy Austin. “Kickin’ Country has been a great partner to both Longwood Athletics and our Men’s Basketball program.”

92.9 FM Kickin’ Country is the Farmville area’s only 24-hour, seven days a week modern country format serving the Heart of Virginia. At 6,000 watts, WVHL covers a 10-county area, including Prince Edward, Buckingham, Cumberland, Powhatan, Amelia, Nottoway, Lunenburg, Charlotte, Appomattox, and Campbell counties. Kickin' Country is the CMT Affiliate for Southside Virginia with programming that features today's top-charting modern country artists, and is flavored with the best in country gold as well. WVHL also offers local news, weather, sports, and information plus ABC Network news and sports.

“We are thrilled to be associated with the Longwood Men's Basketball program for the fifth consecutive season,” said Richard LeSueur, Kickin' Country's Sports Director. “We look forward to broadcasting the Lancers’ entire schedule, including marquee matchups at Virginia, Old Dominion, Richmond, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Maryland. Also, the 12-game home schedule is highlighted by visits from Navy and Stephen F. Austin.”

92.9 FM Kickin’ Country will also air “The Mike Gillian Show”, a weekly 30-minute show that will feature seventh-year Longwood head coach Mike Gillian, hosted by associate athletics director for media relations, Greg Prouty. The program will air each Wednesday at 6 p.m. from November 11 to March 3. New this year, the show will air five (5) special one-hour live shows at the new Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar in The Shoppes @College Park on South Main Street in Farmville. Those dates include the first show of the season next Wednesday, Nov. 11, along with December 16, January 20, February 10, and the final show of the season on March 3.

Handling the play-by-play action again this year will be Scott Bacon, now in his third year as voice of the Lancers. An Ohio native, Bacon is the Director of Broadcasting and voice of the Lynchburg Hillcats, the 2009 champions of the Carolina League (Advanced-A).

Longwood will open the 2009-10 campaign next Friday night, November 13, beginning at 7 p.m. at the University of Virginia at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. The Lancers play their home opener against Navy on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 15, beginning at 4 p.m. in Willett Hall on-campus in Farmville.
