MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- Longwood University rising junior
Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) tied for 18th overall, and ninth among amateurs, with his 72-hole score of 74-72-71-70--287 at the 2008 SunTrust State Open of Virginia that concluded Sunday at the Independence Golf Club (7,127 yards, par 72) in MIdlothian. Fellow amateur Roger Newsome of Virginia Beach (67-70-67-71--275) won the event in a four-hole playoff over professional Chip Sullivan (69-68-69-69--275). Four other former Lancers competed in the commonwealth's premier tournament this past week as well.
Amateur
John Rosenstock of Richmond (73-71-75-71--290) and professional Tim White '83 of Midlothian (71-75-71-73--290) tied for 25th, while amateur Tony Good '89 of Glen Allen tied for 42nd with his 67-73-81-76--297. Rosenstock recently completed his collegiate eligibility at Longwood this past spring. Also competing earlier in the week was amateur Jason Copeland '00 of Norfolk who missed the cut at 79-77--156.
The prestigious tournament began July 17 with a field of 168 golfers that included 80 eligible Virginia PGA members and apprentices, 80 eligible amateurs, the defending champion, and seven Open qualifier spots.
