FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University second-year women’s basketball head coach Kristin Caruso has announced the hiring of Jenna Gambino as the program’s new assistant coach. Gambino comes to Longwood after serving as the assistant coach at Columbia University during the 2007-08 season.
"We are very excited to have Jenna on board with us,” said Caruso. “The experience she has as both a player and coach is very valuable to our program. Coming from Columbia, she has learned a lot about working at the Division I level and will bring that knowledge to our program.”
While at Columbia, Gambino’s duties included planning and implementing proactice drills, working individually with post players, recruiting and scouting opponents. In her time at Columbia, the Lions went 10-18 while posting a 7-7 record in the Ivy League.
Prior to working at Columbia, Gambino served as a graduate assistant coach at Ithaca College, which reached the Division III NCAA Tournament during the 2006-07 season.
Among her many duties, she coordinated plans for practices and conducted one-on-one workouts primarily with post players. During her time at Ithica, Gambino worked towards her master’s degree in exercise science with a concentration in sport psychology, which she received in August 2007.
A 2006 graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Gambino was twice named to the Skyline Conference First-Team and served as team captain her senior season. During her four-year career with the Ducks, Gambino totaled 1,131 points and collected 616 rebounds.
Gambino has also been involved in a variety of basketball camps. She has worked with the Staten Island Renegades, an AAU team of 11-year-old girls; she also worked at the Rising Stars Basketball Camp in Staten Island for four summers and the Philadelphia 76ers basketball camp in the summer of 2005.
