Longwood Collects All-Independent Team Honors
Junior Ashley Melson Competed In Singles & Doubles At Nationally-Ranked Virginia Tech
Ashley Melson earned second-team honors in both singles and doubles

Farmville, Va. - The Longwood University women’s tennis team was honored with 2008 All-Independent honors on Tuesday, as junior Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) earned second-team singles honors from the No. 6 spot, while also earning second-team doubles honors with teammate senior Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) from the No. 3 spot. Freshman Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) and sophomore Laura Simon/Manresa, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) picked up second-team doubles honors from the No. 2 position.

Melson finished the season with a 8-5 overall singles record, while finishing 4-3 from the No. 6 position. In doubles action Melson and Huddleston ended the season 3-0, winning all three matches from the No. 3 spot. Simon and Jakab ended their season with an amazing 8-3 doubles record, dominating from the No. 2 spot finishing with a 7-2 record.

The Lancers ended the season on April 13 in Fairfax with a 6-1 win over George Mason to conclude the season with a 10-7 record.
