FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University first year women's basketball coach Kristin Caruso has announced the signing of Emma Zieverink/West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West) for the 2008-09 season. Zieverink comes to Longwood after helping her high school team to the Ohio State Finals, where they lost a nail-bitter at the buzzer. The 6-0 power forward averaged six points and five rebounds a game for Lakota West, the 16th best high school in the country.
“I am very excited to have Emma on board with us,” said Caruso. “She comes from a tremendous basketball program that sends players to Division I programs every year and she possesses the characteristics that I want in my program. She has both the skills that it takes to be successful in the classroom and on the court.”
This season alone, Lakota West has sent six of its eight graduating seniors to Division I programs, including Amber Grey who has signed with the 2008 National Champion Tennessee Volunteers. Two others will play for Division II and III schools.
Zieverink, who felt at home at Longwood during her visit, plans on studying business at Longwood, while minoring in spanish.
“Once I finally visited the campus and hung out with the girls and coaches, I knew that was where I was meant to be,” she said.
