FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University softball freshman Brooke Short/Altavista (Altavista) was named the VaSID University Division Rookie of the Year as announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID). Short also earned First-Team All-State honors. Senior Camille Ketsdever/Irvine, Calif. (Irvine) and juniors Kami Nuckols/Glen Allen (Patrick Henry) and Briana Wells/Romoland, Calif. (Paloma Valley) all earned Second-Team All-State honors. Radford University’s Kristen Shifflett was named Player of the Year, University of Virginia’s Melanie Mitchell earned Pitcher of the Year honors while Radford’s Mickey Dean was named Coach of the Year.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University freshman Brooke Short/Altavista (Altavista) earned ECAC Division I First Team All-Star recognition as the designated player after a vote by the league’s head coaches. Short led the Lancers with a .436 batting average, 13 home runs, six triples and an .808 slugging percentage. This most recent honor comes in addition to a spot on the NFCA Southeast Region Second Team and NCAA Division I Independent Co-Freshman of the Year honors.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Five members of the Longwood University softball team earned postseason honors, led by freshman Brooke Short/Altavista (Altavista) who earned a spot on the NFCA Southeast Region Second-Team and was also named the NCAA Division I Independent Co-Freshman of the Year. Short led the Lancers with a .436 batting average, 13 home runs, six triples and an .808 slugging percentage. Junior Briana Wells/Romoland, Calif. (Paloma Valley) was named the Independent Pitcher of the Year after she set several Longwood single-season records including 31 wins, 247 2/3 innings pitched, 41 starts and 47 appearances. Other Longwood players on the All-Independent team include senior outfielder Camille Ketsdever/Irvine, Calif. (Irvine), sophomore shortstop Ashley Kramer/Ashburn (Broad Run) and junior second baseman Maggie Margadonna/Sea Girt, N.J. (Wall Township).

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Longwood University softball team split a doubleheader at the University of Maryland of the Atlantic Coast Conference, dropping the first game 3-1 before rallying to win the final game of the season 5-1. Junior Maggie Margadonna/Sea Girt, N.J. (Wall Township) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the second game while junior Brittany Matthews/Farmville (Prince Edward) added a two-run double in the second game. The Lancers end the season with a 36-16 record while the Terrapins move to 32-20.

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University softball team swept visiting Georgetown University 5-4 and 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Lancer Field in Farmville. Junior Kami Nuckols/Glen Allen (Patrick Henry) hit a walkoff double in the first game to give Longwood the victory. Senior Camille Ketsdever/Irvine, Calif. (Irvine) went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double for three RBI on Senior Day while classmate Amy Betterton/Rocky Mount (Franklin County) drove in a pair of runs on two sacrifice flies. The Lancers wrap up their season next Saturday, May 1, when they travel to College Park, Maryland, for a doubleheader against the University of Maryland of the Atlantic Coast Conference beginning at 1 p.m..
