FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University women’s basketball head coach Kristin Caruso has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2010-11 season. Joining the Lancers are Emilee Dunton/Forest (Brookville), Mina Jovanovic/Smederevska Palanka, Serbia (Salt Lake Community College) and Bria White/Bethesda, Md. (Bethesda Chevy Chase High School).

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University women’s basketball sophomore Brittanni Billups/Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) and freshman Chelsea Coward/Mechanicsville (Hanover) earned 2009-10 All-Independent Second-Team honors after being voted on by coaches and sports information directors at the seven Independent schools. The Independent Player of the Year is Katie Williams (18.1p, 6.6r) of CSU Bakersfield, the Independent Newcomer of the Year is Joanna Miller (19.1p, 5.6r) of N.C. Central and the Independent Coach of the Year is Tim La Kose (16-13) of CSU Bakersfield.

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University was one of 33 winners in the NCAA Division I “Pack the House” Challenge. Longwood won the Division I Independents challenge. “Pack the House” is national effort in which conferences and institutions compete to build attendance at women’s basketball games. Despite 12 inches of snow the day before, the Lancers still welcomed 831 fans in Willett Hall for a game against the University of Maryland, surpassing the highest single-game attendance from 2008-09. The NCAA will donate $500 to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Longwood’s name for winning the challenge.

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women’s basketball team fell to Florida Gulf Coast University 74-71 on Sunday evening in Willett Hall in Farmville in the Longwood Tournament championship game. The Lancers were led by freshman Crystal Smith/Richmond (Meadowbrook) who scored a career-high and game-high 28 points (9-18 FG). Fellow freshman Chelsea Coward/Mechanicsville (Hanover) posted her second-straight double-double with 13 points and a career-high and game-high 12 rebounds. Adrianne McNally paced the Eagles with 23 points. Longwood ends the season with a 9-20 record while FGCU improves to 24-6.

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women’s basketball team defeated North Carolina Central University 67-43 on Saturday afternoon in the Longwood Tournament in Willett Hall in Farmville. The Lancers (9-19) were led by freshman Chelsea Coward/Mechanicsville (Hanover) with 19 points (9-15 FG) and 11 rebounds. The Eagles (10-17) were paced by Joanna Miller with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Longwood will face Florida Gulf Coast University, a 51-38 winner over Seattle University earlier in the day, at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, in Willett Hall in Farmville in the Lancer Tournament championship game. Seattle and N.C. Central will meet in the consolation game at 2 p.m. in Willett Hall.
